The Anodyne System
For Peripheral Neuropathy, Wound and Tissue HealingPeripheral neuropathy is the primary cause of diabetic ulcers and the most predictive diagnosis for an amputation. Loss of protective sensation due to peripheral neuropathy is the most common cause of ulceration. At least 15% to 20% of diabetics will develop foot ulcers. Of these patients, 11% will require a lower limb amputation. What causes Diabetic Neuropathy? While scientists do not know what causes diabetic neuropathy, researchers have focused on the effects of excessive glucose metabolism on the amount of nitric oxide in nerves. Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels. With diabetics, low levels of nitric oxide may lead to constriction of the blood vessels supplying nerves, which contributes to nerve damage. Anodyne uses photon energy wavelength to decrease swelling and pain. It facilitates the release of nitric oxide, increasing localized circulation up to 1300% in a 20-minute treatment. Research presented at the June 2001 American Diabetes Association Session substantiates Anodyne as safe and effective . "It is consistent and predictable in improving protective sensation in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy." 100% of patients improved after twelve, thirty-minute Anodyne treatments.A study published in Advanced Wound Care demonstrates that Anodyne was successful in healing many wounds that had not healed with other treatments. Follow-up studies revealed that wounds treated with Anodyne did not succumb to the subsequent breakdowns common to many recently healed wounds. Anodyne has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, neuromuscular injuries, Arthritis and Shingles. CPTI has offered Anodyne as a treatment modality since 1997 and is the first clinic in Colorado to be a Certified Neuropathy Care Center. Information on the Anodyne system and its healing properties was presented in the April 7th copy of Newsweek magazine. Anodyne is covered by Medicare and all major group, auto and workers compensation insurance.
